Gunda Wössner appointed Professor of General Psychology and Clinical Psychology

Researcher accepts position at the Protestant University of Applied Sciences Freiburg

Gunda Wössner, a long-standing researcher for the Max Planck Society, has accepted an appointment as professor at the Protestant University of Applied Sciences, Freiburg. She took up her position as Professor of General Psychology and Clinical Psychology in March 2023.

A psychologist and doctor of psychology, Gunda Wössner had been conducting research for the Criminology department of the Max Planck Institute for the Study of Crime, Security and Law (previously Max Planck Institute for Foreign and International Criminal Law) since 2006. In addition, she was Professor of Psychology at Hochschule für Polizei Baden-Württemberg (police training college) in Villingen-Schwenningen. She is German member of the European Committee for the Prevention of Torture and Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment (CPT).

Her research as Senior Researcher included the resocialization of sex offenders, the effectiveness of social therapy in offenders, crime prognoses, and the life course of sex offenders and violent offenders. Another research focus consisted of victimology in connection with gender-based violence.

Gunda Wössner will continue to serve as a project partner on the project “The Consequences of the Covid-19 Pandemic for Crime in Southwest Germany.” She will collaborate on this project (funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research) with Dietrich Oberwittler, criminologist at the Max Planck Institute, and focus specifically on the investigation of violence towards partners and children.
