Cooperation between the Verfassungsblog and the Max Planck Institute in a new thematic cluster

The Max Planck Institute for the Study of Crime, Security and Law (MPI-CSL) and the Verfassungsblog (VB) entered into a new partnership in September 2024. The cooperation facilitates a broad discussion of current topics, engaging as many scholars as possible from diverse perspectives. The articles are being collected in a new thematic cluster called  VB Security and Crime: A Cooperation Project of VB and MPI-CSL, which can be found on the VB website.

This partnership has led to the creation of a new research hub that will make expertise in this area more accessible and visible, thereby fostering political and academic discourse. The collaboration, which will initially run for two years, is being complemented by an annual blog symposium. In the first debate, the focus is on the impact of the Artificial Intelligence Act (AI Act) on security law  “The EU AI Act's Impact on Security Law”.

The second blog symposium discusses how criminal law is navigating the challenges and pressures posed by authoritarian populism („Zart im Nehmen: Das Strafrecht in Zeiten des autoritären Populismus“) [On Tiptoe: Criminal Law in the Crosswinds of Authoritarian Populism].

The Max Planck Institute for the Study of Crime, Security and Law is one of Europe's leading research institutions in the fields of criminology, public security and criminal law. The Verfassungsblog is an open access forum on current events and developments in constitutional law and policy. Articles on the blog are published in German and English.
