Measuring Suspicion

Verfassungsblog Launches Discussion on Security Architecture

August 31, 2026

The Verfassungsblog (VB) and the Max Planck Institute for the Study of Crime, Security and Law have started a new German-language blog symposium. Drawing on insights from experts in the field, the blog symposium “Die Vermessung des Verdachts – Automatisierte Datenanalyse und die neue Sicherheitsarchitektur” [Measuring Suspicion—Automated Data Analysis and the New Security Architecture] explores what it means for fundamental rights and democracy when millions of datasets can be searched in seconds, information linked, and patterns revealed.

This blog symposium is part of the ongoing cooperation between the Verfassungsblog and the Max Planck Institute, established in September 2024. The thematic cluster VB Security and Crime: A Cooperation Project of VB and MPI-CSL fosters a broad, interdisciplinary discussion on current issues, bringing together scholars from diverse perspectives. As a research hub, it is already enhancing the accessibility and visibility of expertise in this field, thereby strengthening both academic and policy-oriented discourse.
